How to Care for Boxing Gloves and Extend Their Life

Boxing glove care – airing and cleaning after training

Proper care keeps boxing gloves fresher, reduces bacteria and helps the material and padding last longer.

After every training session

  • Remove the gloves from your bag: Do not leave damp gloves in a closed sports bag.
  • Wipe the inside: Use a clean, dry cloth or paper towel to absorb moisture.
  • Air-dry thoroughly: Open the fastening and leave the gloves in a well-ventilated place.
  • Clean the exterior: Wipe the surface gently with a slightly damp cloth.

Regular maintenance

Use a cleaning product suitable for the glove material. Leather gloves may benefit from an occasional leather conditioner, while synthetic gloves should be cleaned according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Glove deodorisers can help absorb moisture between sessions.

What not to do

  • Do not wash boxing gloves in a washing machine.
  • Do not leave wet gloves inside a closed bag.
  • Do not dry them on a radiator or in direct sunlight.
  • Do not use aggressive chemicals that may damage the surface or lining.

How to make gloves last longer

Always wear clean hand wraps, as they absorb sweat before it reaches the glove lining. Wash the wraps regularly and allow both the wraps and gloves to dry completely. If you train frequently, alternating between two pairs gives each pair more time to dry.

A few minutes of care after every session can prevent unpleasant odours and significantly extend the useful life of your boxing gloves.
